副作用﹕

奶薊萃取物 Silymarin水飛薊素對於絕大多數人來說﹐幾乎沒有任何副作用﹐包括孕婦及正在哺乳的女士。甚至有很多建議用奶薊萃取物來治療懷孕期間由於膽囊功能減弱而引起的痕癢。只有不到百分之一的人﹐可能因為服用劑量過高､或純度太低的奶薊產品﹐而令膽囊活動增加﹐而引起極輕微的腸胃不適或腹瀉。不過通常只有剛開始服用的二到三天會有這種現象﹐接下來便不會再發生。

到目前為止﹐尚無任何報告指出奶薊抽出物有毒性反應﹐影響生育能力或造成突變。它是如此安全，所以德國政府並不要求標示使用警語，也認為懷孕及授乳期間服用亦是安全的。
